You couldn't go wrong with the Mercedes. I drove the new C-class, too, and was impressed with what they offer. For me, the car wasn't sporty enough, and I hate the looks of the Kompressor model, so it really wasn't an option. Certainly, I don't think anyone beats Mercedes for build quality. The BMW is just too expensive for what you get, in my opinion - you don't get much with the base and you pay a lot for all the extras. If you decide on the hardtop, don't forget to look at the 9-5 - you can get an Aero for the price of the Mercedes, I think.

As for the armrest and auto-dimming mirror, Saab sells excellent versions of each - I'm sure that your dealer would install them at a discount (or perhaps for free) if you pushed for them.
