Temperature can have an effect in more than one way. Cold air is more dense, so it carries more Oxygen per unit volume than hot air. This makes your air pumping engine more efficient. Next, the colder air cools the radiatior more efficiently. Also, the cooler air makes the air conditioner compressor kick in less to keep the cabin at the same temperature.
Now, having run a few Federal Test Procedures for Fuel Economy (or FTPs as they are called in the business) I can tell you a few things. There is no way in heck that you can drive the exact same route the exact same way three times in a row. Simple things such as a extra swerving lane change can have drastic effects in the short term fuel economy.
All in all, I would say, don't sweat it. Unless you go from (for instance) 30 Miles/gallon one month, to 20 Miles/gallon the next (or the metric equivalent), I'd say don't bother.
This is strictly my opinion, but it is a rather well educated one.
