Virtually anything is more $$ at the dealers.. fact of life.
What's yer hurry to use synthetic oil?? It's not going to make any noticeable differnce to your driving ( and there is ample evidence that the same applies to your engine.. but that's a religious topic contained under the "More $$ are obviously better" philosophy) Engines generally aren't fully broken in 'til 12 or 15 k so at least wait a while longer. More significantly try to determine what engine clearances(service dept?)your engine was assembled with. The reason is that current state of the art Mfg'rs , ( don't laugh.. Toyota, Honda) are producing engines with very tight tolerances, to a degree of accuracy that even Porsche cannot currently equal, that require 5/20 w oils to provide adequate oil film thicknesses.
There are no engines currently made that require (or should have) thinner oils, certainly not Saabs.
