5,000 or 10,000 mile oil changes? Assuming you are using a quality synthetic motor oil like Mobil 1, Amsoil, or Redline, then 5,000 miles betwen oil and filter changes will be no problem at all. I have used Mobil 1 for over 15 years, following a 5,000 mile oil and filter change routine, and have never had an oil related engine problem.
Some people report going 10,000 miles between oil and filter changes with no problems. Those people do mostly freeway driving and drive long distances, say maybe 50 miles each way to work.
So if you drive mostly freeway and for long distances, then 10,000 miles between oil/filter changes will probably be fine.
