While working at one VW dealership, heard a story of another in a nearby town where the mechanic, in a fit of not thinking, after flushing the coolant and oil for a 15K service (pretty sure it was either a 15K or 75K) who put oil in the cooling system - bad, but won't kill the engine - and coolant in the engine - which will, unsurprisingly, kill the engine. Yes - the dealership (and the employee) wound up paying for this.
Make sure that all engine seals were correctly replaced, that the engine still HAS oil in it - and that what is in the oilpan is oil. Since it sounds like there is likelyhood that you might wind up going to court for this - MAKE SURE that the car is checked out by a mechanic you KNOW before handing it over to the dealer for any repairs, if they haven't contractually agreed to repair it - you don't want them covering up what really happened.
MHO,
Wes
