...Brian is right. I have a 2000 9-3 base model and the speaker wires were already run from the cut-out holes in the door to the area behind the kick panel in the passenger footwell where the Saab amp goes.

In my case, once I removed the driver side door panel as described in Richard Bevan's 9-3 Audio Guide, the door itself was covered with a foam padding sheet about 4mm thick with adhesive on the back so it would stick to the metal frame of the door. This is apparently acts as a moisture barrier and a little bit of insulation. This sheet covered the speaker hole, but it had obvious perforations so you could tear it out exposing the cutout hole in the door metal frame where you would mount the speaker. The door panel itself has a thick cardboard cutout covering the corresponding hole behind the speaker grill (which is built into the door panel). I took a sharp utility knife and cut this round cardboard cutout loose to expose the hole for the speaker grill in the door panel.

As Brian said, reach down inside the speaker hole in the door and you should find a wire harness doubled over on itself and taped together. Remove the tape and you will find the speaker connector. (In my case the wire colors matched exactly what Richard Bevan mentioned in the Audio Guide. There was also some discussion on the speaker wire colors last year on this same topic on this message board. If you search the archives for the words "brown" and "orange" you should find it.)

In my case, the other end of the speaker connector and the power and ground connector were a little harder to find behind the kick panel in the passenger footwell. What you are looking for is a wire harness bundle with wires the same color as what you found in the door. They were hard to find in my car because they were tucked back in behind the lip of the center console control panel. There are a lot of wire harnesses running through there and you just have to fish around until you find it.
