Head gasket leaks?

Has anyone ever experienced engine problems (occassional hesitation, jerkiness when accelerating) due to a head gasket leak? My ECU has reported "misfired cylinder" a couple of times. After replacing the plugs and DI unit, I was told that this might be the cause. Traces of CO2 will show up in the coolent. I haven't done anything yet. When it hesitates, the turbo goes into red briefly too!
Confused.
