Nothing wrong with valve systems! I love my home valve system!!! Western Electric 300B's driving the speakers, and a slew of other valves/tubes between the TT cartridge and the output driver tubes. I will note that I have horn speakers 106dB eff. and a set of cone speakers that are 97dB eff. In fact, each set of speakers is worth as much as my wife's 90 SPG...
Back to the 9-3 Audio. I have no doubt the speaker drivers are crap. 95% of customers probably don't care about the quality level of the audio, so why spend big bucks on the components. Case in point, people buy audio from Best Buy, Circuit City, and Bose for the home. Even though I have a lease, I'm tempted to do something in my 9-3 base. The audio in a 2000 9-3 base model sucks. I know there are no door speakers, and the system lacks the extra amp the SE model has. If I were to get some Infinity Kappa's, how would I install in the dash? How do the grills come off?
I had a 9-5 Base (or was it SE?) loaner car one day and that system was FAR better than my 9-3. Clarity, imaging, tight bass, and plenty of slam.
