Was your lease originated with Chase, or did they acquire it after it was originated by someone else, such as SAAB Leasing? Or, have I missed something here and Chase IS SAAB Leasing?
I wonder what the premium is to an outfit like Chase to insure the residual? I believe lease companies count on vehicles not going to the full term of the lease, so they aren't confronted with the residual value vs. market value with every lease. But, if your case, without any excess mileage factor, indicated a trade-in value of say $12M (trying to back out the excess mileage) and the residual is $16M, what premium did Chase have to pay (and build into its financing rate) to insure against that $4M shortfall? If I were an insurer, the premium would have to be pretty lucrative to entice me into insuring the residual. I guess you never hear about the cases where the residual is under the value at which the lessor can sell the vehicle at the end.
