1st. There are a number of possible reasons for this high oil burn.

a) bad turbo seal.
b) too light oil.
c) damage due to high loads during the break in period.

a is a warranty item, have your turbo seal checked.

For the rest.... using fully synth oil is not always the good
solution... cause you need to select the correct oil and you need
to stay with it, cause otherwise if you switch you can generate
oil leaks as each oil has some solvents in it to enable it to
take along the dirt when you change it... but some dirt seals
of some parts and if you switch oil you could get leaks as the new
oil might remove the dirt where its usefull. (go figure)

I would suggest that you use a 10w-40 oil at least, better even
a 10w-50 or 15w-50 to reduce the oil burn. What brand... well I would
use Castrol in your case and not Mobil1.

Oil burn up to 0.5 liters of oil per 1000Km is sometimes
the case with some engines. While this increases the running
costs of the engine, its not always a sign that you got a bad
engine. Most Mercedes and Alfa engines burn oil... still they
run for many years provided that their owners add oil once in
a while.

I have an Italian car that has the reputation of burning much oil...
and now the one I have does this with great moderation... in mine
it's just hard to measure, don't ask me why... it's just that way.
One thing however, I use the oil FIAT says one should use and not
Mobil1 or something... so this seems to have an effect as everyone
I know that uses other oils, burns loads of it.

You could also try to get some Selenia 10w-40 for your SAAB and try it.
