I U-haul'd from southern Ontario to Kansas. And there are lots of hills in Missouri to deal with. I had their largest truck with the diesel engine. I could not maintain speed on the hills and was down to 55 mpg on I70 on the up slopes.
I towed my 95SET. I was concerned about the added wieght of the full trailer and used the one that lifted the front wheels only. This worked perfectly well. With 20:20 hindsight on the up hill power requirements, I would use the front dolly unit again to avoid added weight.
The Diesel was very noisy. We could not have a converation in the cab. We used ear plugs and took two days to cover 1000 miles.
I can see no reason to worry about running on the rear wheels of a front wheel drive vehicle. Don't forget to release the parking brake! :)
I had no problem getting my 95SET on and off the dolly unit. Clearance was not an issue. For the Viggen perhaps.
