Just picked up a '99 9-3 SE 5-door, 5 spd. Wonderful car. Just took to PA from TN and back, I can honestly say I've never had a car that was so nice to drive without fatigue or trouble. Almost 30 mpg the entire trip, handles fantastically in the wet (monsoon would be more accurate) on the supplied Yokohama AV550 (look like an older AVS-dB tire).

Questions:
- When at idle with HVAC on Auto, it really seems to sap the power of the car, like it is really working to maintain operation at idle. Going to Econ mode seems to help slightly. Normal? Or am I suspect to think loose/worn belts might be in question?
- Anybody have recommendations on which spark plugs? Thinking about Bosch Platinum+4 type.
- If the car sits for a while (say overnight) the first actuation of the clutch is harsh but fine afterwards. Seems more noticeable when cooler outside too. Normal? Or am I suspect the clutch is in need of a replacement soon (a little balky at going into fifth when cold too, but that seems normal from what I read).
- When I have the parking lights on the main lamp has this "soft" illumination in it (like a dim DRL). On the driver's side this doesn't work. Is this a function of the main light bulb or is there a secondary light bulb to provide that function that needs replacement?
- Do the oil filters have any special mechanisms in them? The Nissan I just traded in for the 9-3 had a top mount oil filter in which the Nissan part has a backflow valve to help prevent totally dry starting due to the top mount filter. Will any normal filter for the car work or is there a recommended brand to purchase?
- Have some scratches in the windshield and may replace after winter is up. Does anybody have experience with this? Can I expect the replacement to have the very handy sunblock above the rearview mirror or do replacements just come as cheapo nothing special glass? If anybody can recommend someone (SafeLite or other) that has good replacement glass that would be handy.
- Finally, the old owner apparently left the sunroof tilted open when it rained and I have some mottling from some water stains on the sunshade. Any pointers on how to clean would be greatly appreciated!

Whew! I am sure I'll find other stuff to ask. Until then I am thankful for any input provided and am glad this forum is up for support of these overlooked, fun cars!
