You haven't noted whether you're going to Canada for a new job. If that is the case, and if Canada's income tax regulations are anything similar to those in the U.S., then is it conceivable that the difference between the lease buy-out price (which is being forced upon you by the move) and the value for which you could sell the car (a couple of dealers would probably be happy to offer to buy the car for some stunningly low price) would constitute a moving expense which then may be considered as an itemizable deduction on your income tax return? It may be worth exploring that with a tax specialist in Canada - if that is feasible, and you go that route, you may at least be able to partially mitigate the cost of buying out the lease. On the other hand, if you buy the car, at least you'll know it's history, etc. I don't know how SAAB Leasing is, but I understand most lessors, such as banks, will still hold you, as the original lessee, responsible for the lease and vehicle, even if they approve transfer or assumptin by another party. That's very dangerous, unless you know the assuming party extremely well, and even then I'd think real hard about it.
Good luck!
