Granted WD-40 isn't always the best lube since it's so thin... Sometimes white lithium grease or 3-in-one oil is better. All I know is that I've fixed plenty of squeaky parts with good results.

As for what happens to used parts at the dealers... They are prohibited from reselling them as new and since there is no market for them otherwise they are destroyed or thrown away. (Dumpster diving behind your dealer can be fruitful! ;-)

Saab insists that some parts that are replaced under warranty must be returned for inspection (and to keep the dealers honest). Things like ECU's, DI cassettes, electronic parts, etc are inspected to see how they fail (especially when they have a rash of failures). These parts are then destroyed... Nothing that I know of is "remanufactured" (except maybe transmissions, or engines).
