OK, I've had about enough of this pointless whining about "my steering wheel buttons aren't lit"... Jeesh, like this is the worst problem in the free world.

Anyway, if you've ever disassembled the steering wheel on a 9-3/9-5 you'll find exactly TWO wires that go to the steering wheel controls. But wait, you say... How do they make TWO wires handle the function of all those radio controls PLUS the horn?!?! Well, my friends, it's all about distributed computers. There is a tiny chip in the steering wheel that converts those button presses to a code that is send over the two wire bus. The two wires pass through a "ring" in the steering wheel (think potentiometer) so there are actually NO physical wires that are twisting as you turn the wheel! Cool.

Thus, they reduce the complexity and increase the reliability (fewer wires that can break). The only downside is that to light up the buttons they'd have to run two more wires (+12volts and ground) in order to provide this somewhat questionable feature. Are we satisfied now?
