I have both a 99 9-3 and a new 01 9-3. For the 1999 model there is the usual graph of temperature versus weight for oil recommendation. Basically 5W-30 / 10W-30 for cold weather and up to 15W-50 for hot weather. In Florida I run 10W-30 in the winter and 15W-50 in summer - OK, no problem.
Looking at the 01 Manual basically Saab is saying 5W-30 semi synthetic is good for everything and I might consider 0W-30 or 0W-40 full synthetic if I want.
Have the engines been changed internally since 1999 or is this a USA recommendation to keep the gas mileage figures up? In Florida I'd really rather not go below 10W-30.
