It's about as hard as changing a spark plug, except you have to crawl under the car instead of standing up. The hard part is paying for the new sensors :) Maybe $200 a pop depending on where, so shop around. Don't know about the "rocky" idle, but on my '89 900 old sensors have caused the idle to wander around a bit. Old sensors gradually get slower to respond causing the air/fuel mixture to hunt around because the computer expects the sensor to respond quickly.
I haven't changed the ones on my '01 9.3 yet but done lots on other cars. Follow the wire to where you can unplug it. They make a special socket with a channel for the wire; I bought one, & found its easier to just use a box wrench because of clearances. Depends on where the thing is located.
Feed the wire through the wrench, (I think 22mm??) & unscrew the thing from the exhaust pipe. Easy on something as new as '99 because the exhaust pipe hasn't turned to rust yet. Don't drop any crud into the pipe, especially upstream of the catalyst. If your exhaust pipe were old I'd say clean the flat surface where the sensor washer will seat. New sensor should have anti-sieze compound on the threads, make sure its there, or add some. Screw in the new sensor & plug in the wire.
