With regard to snow performance, with a 5 speed transmission, snow performance is all on your shoulders. The 9-3 Auto tranny has a winter function, which I use occasionally in my 9-3SE. The winter performance of any car really rides on the tires though. An Audi Quattro or a Land Rover Defender would be terrible in snow if you put Bridgestone S03 Pole Positions on it. Likewise, an '84 Camry could be wonderful in the snow if you put Nokian Hakkas on it. Especially with a manual transmission, getting started in the snow relies much more on you than it does on the car. Saabs can be great in the snow, but most cars can as well. They certainly didn't get a reputation for being good snow cars by driving off the road, but is that is most likely a function of the drivers more than the cars. The ignorant jerks who want to go 100 mph in a blizzard usually drive BMWs, whereas, judging from this board and some research conducted by either Saab USA or Scott here on the board, most Saab drivers tend to be highly educated. Coincidence? You tell me.
