My '99 SE has been a great car. 50K and counting.

I too think you could do better on the price, however part of the $16,995 includes the two year warrenty which is a good thing to have.
Have the front end struts checked, my bushings were replaced at about 45,000 miles. My rear shocks were replaced at the 50K checkup and I also needed new brakes.
I've had an '02 loaner as well and I do notice the difference with the 205hp engine, primarily when running the AC. However, I like the leather seats a lot better in the '99. It may be my imagination but the steering feels a little heavier in the '99, which I like. The '99 rides on 205/50/16's which I will change to 205/55's after my time with the '02.
Stereo should be the same, 6 speakers in both. You can put a six disc in the trunk.
Make sure you understand what your warrenty covers and if it is worth the price. Otherwise, you should be able to pick up a '99 SE in the 15K range
