This I keep a leatherman multitool in the glovebox.
The rear seat bottoms are held to the car by hingepins. The hingepins are kept in place by wire cotterpins. Here's where the multitool comes in: Using the pliers attachment of the multitool, I can remove the cotterpins. The flat screwdriver blade of the multitool is then used to pry the hingepins out. The seat bottoms then come out quite easily. With the seat bottoms out, there is plenty of legroom in the front of the car. I was able to transport a whole kid's bedroom set in my trunk... with the hatch closed this way.
