If you commute on the highway, it does not take much snow to have fatal accidents. If you are a good driver, then perhaps you will want the added stopping and steering abiltiy to avoid the POS with bald tires which is sliding across the median infront of you.
Snows are just another form of insurance. The auto insurance industry should pay for them! You will get wear/miles value from the snows and the steel wheels are only $38 each and they protect your alloys from the salt.
I use them in Kansas. I usually see a few fatal snow/ice related accidents per winter here, but not so far this year. At 75 MPH, things can go bad real fast.
Still on the Blizzaks that I purchase for the winter of 95/96
