disconnect as much hose as you feel comfortable doing. Flush out the hoses. Use a thin blade to seperate the halves of the check valves. DO NOT loose the spring and plunger. Note how they go together. Clean out the inside of the valve - chances are there will be a rubber ring inside. This ring is what is left of the diaphragm. Get a latex surgical glove. Home Depot has 'em for $.99. Snap the valve halves back together over one thickness of the glove. Trim off excess, reinstall valves and hoses.
I have done this almost a year ago and it still works great. I use plain water in my sprayer system.
