I agree, Saabs do not get the respect they deserve. BMW's are excellent performers and are high in quality, but they have a very different design philosophy which comes from the track. It's all about HP and High RPMs. Saab is about everyday performance, and it's philosophy is about torque. Put a Viggen against an M3 and the M3 will smoke the Vig because it can go up to 8000 rpm. If the M3 shifts at 6000 rpm, it cant keep up. The M3 only has 262 lb-ft of peak torque (4200rpm). The Vig 258 lb-ft kicks in at 2500 and stays in till about 5000. Now if the M3 can't keep up with the vig under 6000 rpm, there is no possible way for a 330 to come close. If you throw in the variable of altitude (since I live in colorado) the BMW loses 30% of power @7000 ft. The vig keeps it all till 10,000 ft. Now if that isn't worthy of respect, I don't know what is. Stick to your guns saab people, BMW talks big, but does not deliver in the mountains.
