I think your last reply summed up the situation very well. I think you basically said, The change of engine damage increases the further you push the limit. I agree. Right now, I basically am using the MBC to reduce the boost restrictions in 1st, 2nd gear and to increase spool up. It is set slightly lower than normal stock boost levels and installed inline with the BPC, so effectively the BPC does control the maximum boost (even though the MBC will cause an occasional spike into the red, depending on how I goose it, it never stays in the red like it did when I had it installed directly between the turbo and wastegate with a higher boost limit. When I had it installed this way, I never heard knocking, but I did notice a decrease in top end power even though I had boost well into red. The loss of top end power happened over time and I think it was due to retardation of timing to prevent knock rather than knock itself. My spark plugs never indicated a lean condition, they always looked normal. I decided to install it inline with the BPC, just to have better top end power. So far it is working better this way. BTW, I keep a close eye on my plugs, I keep my injectors clean, and I always use 93 octane.
