I have an '01 convertible in the U.S. Both of my doors have always unlocked when the key is removed. Since there is no door lock button, it would be terrible if only the driver's door would unlock... that would make for an unhappy copilot! I've never heard of a case like yours, if I understood it correctly. A few times the ignition module has not popped up to trigger the unlocking. Then I have to put the key back in and remove it again -- not a big problem. My passenger door also unlocks if I pull my drivers side lock manually while the car is running, such as when I drop someone off.
