The following impressions after driving a Viggen convertible were posted on 'The Corner', part of National Review's website....
SWEDEN, MON AMOUR: [Rod Dreher] So I'm leaving a restaurant in Palo Alto with my friends, and Philippe says, "Do you want to drive the car?" The car is a Saab 9-3 Viggen, a five-speed thing of beauty and a joy forever. I protest that I'm not worthy. He laughs and hands me the keys. Can I tell you? Can I just tell you?! As Jerry Clower used to say, "Haaaaaw! Gloh-ry!"
That baby rockets along effortlessly, steers like a dream, and looks damn good doing it. It's an endorphin machine. I wasn't aware that driving could be a sublime experience. When we arrived back at Philippe's house, I told him, "It would have been less dangerous had you said, 'Here, take a hit off this crack pipe.'" I called my wife to say, "Uh, honey, let me tell you about this Saab convertible." No! she said, your midlife crisis is still 10 years away. I have begun a novena to St. Brigid of Sweden, hoping for a miracle. Please, St. Brigid, I'd use the Viggen only to do the Lord's work, I swear!
