Long-term damage from ignition cassette failure?

The engine of my 2001 9-3 SE stopped running suddenly (at 80 MPH) and was towed to the dealer. They replaced the direct ignition cassette and all spark plugs, which were fouled with unburned fuel due to cassette failure. When I picked the car up, I noticed that it had very little power. After few miles, the "check engine" symbol lit up. I brought the car back to the dealer, who replacd the catalytic convertor that had become plugged due to the unburned fuel and was obstructing the flow of exhaust gas. Car seems fine now, but I'm wondering what long term damage may have been done to the engine (pumping unburned gasoline, working against excessive back-pressure), and whether I should not consider buying the car when my lease is up in 18 months.
