While I lack an explanation for the following, here's what I've found;
I've had the "tighten gas cap" message come up twice and twice I've removed it and tightened it without effect. However, in both instances, I had just switched the brand and quality of gas (from 93 down to 87). As soon as I switched back to 93, the message dissappeared. Conclusion . . . well, none really . . . this is hardly a scientific study, but considering the gas cap is tied in with emissions, and also considering how finicky 9-3's are with the quality of gas, I would try switching suppliers or quality for a while and seeing if that solves the problem.
Hope that works,
mark
