You *don't* understand?
I was a proud proud Saab 900S driver until I tried a 7 year old 3 Series 318is.
I was blown away by the silky smooth engine, the snick-snick transmission, the body hugging seats, the seemingly endless power band in the small 1.9 litre engine.
The Saab 900/9-3 is course and handles like a wet sock. The only thing it has going for it, on a purely objective level, is body style, practicality, less snob value and a cheaper ticket price.
I love my car, and feel good (especially when I approached it from 3-quarter on in the snow during a recent skiing trip) about it, but I don't fool myself into thinking it's the bees knees of cars. (That title belongs to the Ferrari 360, by the way.)
The 9-3SS is 10 years overdue in bringing (so I read) Saab up to Audi/BMW/Audi levels of driver involvement and refinement.
I just can't wait for the 3-door.
