I just stumbled onto this release on the GM Canada website. Not sure if it is old news.... Price seem pretty reasonable and in line with current 9-3 prices. ;-)
OSHAWA, Ontario (August 12, 2002) - General Motors of Canada Ltd. today announced pricing for the all-new 2003 Saab 9-3 sport sedan. Due in dealerships this October, the Saab 9-3 is poised to better the competition on performance and safety, and offer a very attractive price.
The Saab 9-3 will be available in three variants - Linear, Arc and Vector. The Manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the Linear begins at $34,900, including leather seating and Saab's Electronic Stability Program (ESP), plus a $990 destination freight charge. "We are preparing to enter the premium compact sport sedan segment with a bang," said David Staniforth, GM of Canada's Saab Brand Manager. "The car's aggressive design, exceptional 'fun-to-drive' appeal, and extensive safety features definitely rank among the best in the segment. And our pricing makes it the best value in the segment."
The first step in the biggest product development program in Saab's history, the entry-level Linear Sport sedan is the first vehicle in North America to be introduced on the new Epsilon platform. It provides the best-ever chassis dynamics, excellent aerodynamics including a slippery 0.28 drag coefficient and an increased wheelbase and wider track for handling and roominess.
The 9-3 comes with a choice of two new 2.0L all-aluminum turbocharged engines, ranging in power from 175- to 210-hp. Available transmissions include five- and six-speed manual gearboxes and a five-speed automatic with Saab Sentronic manual gear selection and optional steering wheel mounted shift controls.
The Arc and Vector variants will enter the market early in the 2003 calendar year and will be priced in the high $30's and low $40's respectively.
