I see this when I'm below 1/4 tank and parked on a slope. I've never had the car not start since I park overnight in a very level carport.
Normally what happens is I start the car and know I have at least 1/8 tank of gas, but the fuel light comes on and the DTE is incorrect. I can fix it immediately by parking on a level surface and restarting the car - it seems that the computer sets itself when the car starts and never again. Seems to be the same issue.
