I got my Saab on ebay, and it was a great deal. The selling dealer was super nice and helpful. Also the car was in great shape, with the exceptions of the windshield being pitted (that doesn’t happen on the west coast so I wasn't expecting it (car from CT)) and the heater box was seized up.
If you find a car on ebay that your interested in. grab the vin# and call up a local Saab dealer, They can tell you what work has been done to the car, and what dealership has done the work. You can find out if it's been a problem, if/when the heater box stuff has been worked on, how good they have been about maintenance etc.
Also after you have won the auction, have the seller take the car to a Saab dealer and have them inspect the car, this worked out OK for me, and I got new from pad's and rotors out of the deal. (cost me $80 for inspection, of course the monkeys didn't find the stuck heater box thing)
Of course the shipping was a whole different thing, I'm going to court next month over that.
