If my calculator isn't lying you should be able to mount a 225/50-16 on a 7.5" wide rim with no or little trouble (almost exact speedo/odo match to the stock 205/55-16). A 7" wide rim typically works with no or little risk of offset trouble on the 9-3 and the 225 width will mount comfortably to anything 7" - 8" in width (always check the maker's specs to be sure).
Bear in mind you are looking at gaining one inch over stock rim width which translates into a different (and very necessary) offset for the wheel. Since you hinted towards buying from the TireRack you should be safe with their rim recommendations. If you look elsewhere be sure to get the specs on the rim offset to avoid any complications down the road with rubbing or similar wear. I don't have access to the technical wheel/hub/clearace specs for a 9-3 so I'm not able to offer any good input there just yet. The folks at TireRack should be able to provide if you ask. Somebody here on SAABNET may also have done research on and could provide.
The 225/50-16 size is pretty common too so you should find a good selection available.
Borbet makes nice wheels, I've had several sets in use years past with no trouble. The H is nice, smooth and no real nooks for brake grime to build up in. I just plopped a set of Sport Edition Tekno rims on my 9-3, they look great and seem to be very well made. I am concerned about keeping them clean though as they have a good deal of detail features on them.... Oh well, it will give me something to do this summer...
Hope this helps!
