any 9-3 or newer 900 with head gasket failures, except the ones that have over heated. So I don't have any first hand experiance with retorque.
But I follow this discussion closely because of the experiance I had trying to use those "new" bolts on that older engine.
We have quiet a few newer cars coming in, but nothing stands out so far. It just seems that it's an awful lot of engines with seeping and failing headgaskets on low miles cars, compared with the old engine.
I actually also get a feel for that it's not that many on the NG900 board with this seeping gasket problem, and doing a search on head gaskets there, reading most of them carefully. It's mostly 97 (and a few 96)that seems to have this similar problem (97 is when the new bolts came into production)
It's just in the back of my head that with a bolt so weak, so that they have to lower the torque specs (you never gonna hear this from Saab/GM)for it to clamp properly, you are awfully close to the failure/stretch level.
In my humble beleive. I think it's just a matter of who could produce the bolt for least amount of money. And I guess they just found the winner in that competition.
It also wouldn't surprise me that in the very near future, a new superseeded bolt show at the dealers that allow a higher torque.
As I also have mentioned in some of the posts, if you do head gaskets on any Saab V6 engine, you will find out that those bolts must have been made of some un-Earthly steel because the amount of torque that is applied to those is unreal. My back and shoulders make all kind of noises torquing them down.
