Under the battery tray, there is a large 42 pin connector. For one reason of another, this connector might have one of more pins pushed out slightly. If the pins are pushed out, they can break contact intermittantly. This can cause anything from a check engine light to a quick system shutdown. It's not a habitual problem with the car, but it does explain the intermittant problems that have come up on some of the cars. The service dept. can pull the connector loose and check the connector for anything unusual; it will only take a minute or two to check. You'll probably find this to be the explanation to the mysterious problem. We've started pulling all of our in-stock 9-3 Sedans back one at a time and checking them, just to make sure that the customer doesn't have any problems after delivery.
Cheers,
Brian.
