Ian:
I have owned about 6 Saabs over the last 10 years. The new 9-3SS is the best handling Saab ever. It is also cool looking as Mako pointed out very correctly! I still think the 9000 was one of the greatest high speed, over the road cars, but the new Saab has it beat in every other way. I have lived with this car about 6 weeks now and have not had any real problems. The clutch is sensitive, and it is easy to stall, the rear speakers are poor, but as mentioned above, a fix on the way, so sez dealer.
Is 175 HP enough?? with a stick? For me it is. If I had 210hp, well then, I also would not be getting close to 30MPG with a lot of city miles. When the price goes to $1.75, which it might, that is also a factor. You can still buy a 5 L Mustang I think, if need be. I have driven, and owned old 900's and might own one again, but in day to day driving, this car is more fun. Yes, it has a good deal of Opel in it, but when you consider how the international auto business has had to consolidate, I think it's safe to say it is most likely this Saab, or NO Saab. Does anyone think a company as small as Saab was could stand by it's self today? Having owned, and still, own a number of dead marques( MG, TR) I find it's kind of fun to to have one where the manufacturer is still in business!!!
Take Care
Chris
