I probably shouldn't of lumped all of Europe together. My bad driver experience was in Rome and Athens (major urban areas). Athens was really out of hand as I saw a car actually roll because he hit a bollard blocking off the pedestrian mall he was going to drive through.... The French country side and the Swiss Alps was a completely different breed of drivers...
Another factor may also be the requirements are much tougher to obtain a drivers license in Europe (or so I've been told)...
