There is a ton of discussion on this subject here, so do a seach for more feedback. I use, and have recommended, Michelin Artic Alpins. The reason is that, in addition to being excellent in the snow, they work very well in the dry. Fairly quiet and decent handling, though one shouldn't get overly agressive in the dry with them. They are perfect for someone like me who lives in an area where winters vary and snow can be heavy, like this year, or nonexistent, like last. My '02 9-3 is also a disaster in the snow with the sport oriented Pirellis. With the Alpins, the car gets through anything.
