I've never owned a 9-3, only older 900s. However when I was shopping for a newer Saab, I did drive several 9-3s. I ended up getting a 2000 Viggen, about 6 weeks ago.

From my limited experience - 9-3s have a quieter and much smoother ride. The Viggen has a harsher ride, and more tire noise (currently Pirellis on there, I'll be getting new ones soon.) If you drive a lot on rough roads, you will feel every bump. The seats are so incredibly comfortable though, it more than makes up for the ride. There are complaints about the wheels being too easily bent, and the front air dam is perilously low to the ground. On the highway it is smooth and very comfortable.

The Viggen is just WAY more fun to drive, not real fast in gears 1 & 2, an absolute rocket in the higher gears though, really exhilarating. I am a little disappointed in how it handles fast on hard turns - again that could be tires, and I may be comparing it to my last performance type car, a Porsche 944S, which was much tighter on winding roads. How it compares to the 9-3 on hard turns I'm not sure.

Plus, the Viggen looks way, way cooler! I like that mine is a silver 5 door, I feel like I'm driving a stealth car. Not as pretty as the yellow or blue, but sometimes one just doesn't want to draw attention...

I love my Viggen, it feels like a sports car for grown ups. :)
