I've always driven stick, but remember the time my father taught me how to "feel" the clutch.

Using NO THROTTLE in a relatively level parking lot, put the car in first, and use only the clutch to get it moving. You will get a feel for the clutch's holding point this way, and realize that the clutch doesn't engage at a constant rate in proportion to the pedal movement. You'll be able to life your foor quickly to the point where the clutch begins to engage, slowly ease the pedal through the friction of the clutch trying to grab, and release fully once it is engaged. Just think about what a clutch is actually doing, and you'll be fine.

My father made me do this in every gear, from 1-5. That may be a bit hard on the clutch, but it's certainly a worthwhile exercise for the first few gears.
