Properly equipped, they are a driver's car.
Steering feel is very good (not quite as active as a BMW or Porsche due to the front wheel drive, but you can certainly feel what is going on)
Suspension, with the right tires, is very communicative. Handling is superb, although again a lot of this is due to wheel/tire combinations.
These cars are affordable and yet definitely up-scale.
With a hatchback and folding rear seats they also become VERY easy to live with.
Not to mention the most obvious point: That rush of turbo power and the torque it generates!
