I think Saab will give you the 500 when keeping the 9-5. I leased a Viggen in '99 and got $1000 I think as a loyalty discount because of my 88 900T which I kept of course. The Viggen was my first new car, so I liked the idea of being able to just give it back after three years if I wasn't enthused about it and I knew I wouldn't have to spend months getting a buyer or potentially losing on a trade. It can takes many months to find a buyer for a specialty car like the Viggen since there are fewer buyers. One of the guys at work got done using his Porsche 924S last fall and hasn't found a buyer yet. There just isn't a huge market for certain enthusiast cars.
I wouldn't venture a guess what the car you are looking at will be worth in three years, but the buyout is designed to be fairly close to the value, otherwise, Saab would have more used cars on their hands than they know what to do with if it were too high, and they'd be giving away cars to cheaply if it were too low.
