So I modded my airbox, in a lazy way...

Utilizing my war-torn Dremel spiral saw I ripped the interior intake pipe that extends into the airbox under the filter out.

All of fifteen minutes (after an hour finding all of the tools).

Results?

Not a huge difference going by SOP. Boost levels are naturally about the same according to the dash gauge touching into the red under WOT in gears 3-5 still. Spool response does feel smoother, maybe not as restricted as it did before.

So is it worth it?

Well, easier than the full on 3" mod, no disassembly required (I did take the box out of my car, but could easily be done in place with a sock over the flexible intake hose to keep shavings out). Looks nice (smoothing the cut edge is easy, no painting and no attachment issues). A tad bit louder with the box pulling air in a different pattern/velocity and more distinct hiss of the turbo coming to life.

Wondering how much volume the extra .25" of diameter the real deal 3" pipe conversion would provide... Need to find the calculator and do that math. I'll slap a K&N in there next to finish it up and see where it leaves the whole situation.

Thought this might prove interesting to some due to the ease of doing. Certainly doesn't hurt performance and is super easy.

Gotta' pop the turbo silencer next... Nice to have warm weather finally to get some of the SAAB wish list items done.
