Oh boy... Lauren, Lauren, Lauren... How can you SAY that?! It absolutely *IS* the tires... Trust me! You'll be amazed at what a difference GOOD tires will make in the grip and handling of ANY car. After all, what is in contact with the road???

Slap a set of snow tires on ANY front wheel drive car and it will transform it into a winter fighter! It doesn't matter if that car came from Sweden, Germany or Korea.

>I believe that it has more to do with the lighter aluminum engine that
>they have put in it..it just doesn't hvae the weight in the front to get
>the max out of the front wheel drive!

UGH... And by the same analogy people go out and buy the BIGGEST HEAVIEST SUV that they can get because hey, it must be safer in the snow right? Little do they realize that the laws of physics are against them when they try and stop all that weight on a slick surface.

If anything, you want a proper 50/50 balance in vehicle weight for the best handling... This means having a LIGHTER engine! If you had a heavier engine in front the car would plow like a PIG in the snow and you'd HATE it... (You also wouldn't be able to control what's called "understeer").

I would MUCH rather drive a Mini Cooper in the snow than a Chevy Suburban!

And if you really want to find out how cars handle in the snow, take a winter driving course or sign up for SCCA ice racing... It's open to all vehicles and lo and behold, the LIGHTER ones do better! It's funny to see a heavy SUV try and negotiate the same turn as a Saab... It's not even close!

Just give the SUV's plenty of room when the conditions are bad... ;-)
