I've heard and read various conflicting tidbits of information regarding what does and doesn't work to enter and/or start one's car, and does the alarm sound or not.

"Seletion Specialist" at the dealer indicated that a spare key (not remote) that was used to unlock the car would set of the alarm, but the alarm would then stop when you start the car (with the spare key). I just checked. Wrong. Spare unlocks the car, with no alarm. Spare DOES NOT start the car(SID: "KEY NOT ACCEPTED"). Primary KEY (remote) does start the car. Spare doesn't start the car, even with primary present. The conclusion is that the primary has imbedded circuitry that is part of a feedback loop necessary to enable ignition, and therefore must be in the ignition switch to be recognized. In this configuration, the $50 spare is good for only two things. Getting stuff out of your car that you really need, and serving as a template for a new remote key. Helpful, but not very.

Primary key can also be used to mechanically unlock the car, with the same results.

Anybody know anything else?
