I'm in the exact situation you are - I have an '01 Viggen with 36,000 miles. I actually purchased the extended warranty today before I hit the magical 36,000 barrier. Bought the GM extended plan (major guard) which I understand to be the most comprehensive and most widely accepted. They have a variety of choices for coverage based on 48/60/72 months (from purchase date) with coverage up to 100,000 miles and a deductible of $0, $100 or $200. Its not cheap (cost for the 72 month, 100k $0 deductible was $3285). To find out more about the plan, go to the General Motors website where they have a sample agreement as to what it covers. As for cost - call around to a few dealers as the prices will vary.

Note, however, this GM plan is supposed to be purchased BEFORE your vehicle reaches 36,000 miles, so you might be out of luck unless a dealer is willing to work with you and fudge the numbers a bit.

If the GM plan doesn't work for you, search this site as other users have recommended other warranty plans and links to same.
