Depends on your definition of "synthetic"?

Most likely it's a "fake" Group III syn (like Castrol's Syntec), rather than a "real" Group IV syn (like Mobil 1, Amsoil, Redline, etc). Group III (hydroprocessed (super-refined) petroleum) oils have initial properties similar to Group IV (poly-alpha-olefin) oils, but they don't hold up as well over extended drain intervals. They're also much cheaper to manufacture, so you should be paying only 1/3 to 1/2 as much for a Group III as you would a Group IV.
Just because companies can legally call their Group III oils "synthetic" doesn't mean all companies choose to do so. Mobil has higher regard for Group IV oils than they do for Group III oils, so it's probably a Group III oil or a blend of Group II & Group III.
