I took delivery this afternoon of my 9-3 SS Arc - silver, 6-speed manual, Touring package, sunroof and heated seats. List price $33,935 - my price was $30,734. I added the tow package, which is slickly implemented. I've already had two neighbors come over and admire it, asking what it was...

I spent a couple of hours going through the manuals - a lot is familiar, a lot is not. One thing I'll have to get used to is not HAVING to put the gearshift into reverse to take the key out, but of course Saab recommends that one do so.

Fit and finish on the car was excellent - I haven't found a single flaw of this nature yet. I did puzzle over the manual's instructions regarding the "hidden" keyslot in the driver's door, since mine was well exposed, but I found the cap in the glovebox and installed it.

The one "problem" I've discovered so far is that the garage door opener feature of the mirror just doesn't work. I can't get it to blink the LED for the programming. I'll take it by the dealer in the morning to see what they say. Everything else I've tried works fine.

While I was at the dealer, I tried the "comfort" feature where you hold down the unlock button on the remote to cause the windows and sunroof to open - they didn't. The tech told me this wasn't available in the US yet (but might be in a later software update) - seems a bit odd, does this work for anyone else?

The car is quite a bit wider than my '97 900SE - with the 900, I could zip into my garage without paying much attention, but now I have to do it carefully lest I whack a mirror on the door frame.

One feature which I consider somewhat obnoxious is the larger function display in the main dash always being on and usually displaying a menu. I'd rather it be off if I'm not doing anything, as it isn't otherwise useful. I like the high-mounted display, though.

Question - there was a "Quick Reference Guide" hangtag booklet included which mentioned, in a column labelled "Cool features", the following: 'There is a hidden storage area in the left side of the trunk.' There is? Must be well-hidden, I couldn't find it. There's an access panel on the left covering the audio system amp and controller, but what else?

I'm looking forward to playing with my new toy... Now to find someone worthy to take good care of my '97 900...
