93 SS Rear speaker bass filter?

I've read on this board that the rear speakers have some sort of bass filter that removes the bass frequencies going to the rear speakers. How true is this?

The reason I ask- I have subs powered off of an amp, which gets it signal from the rear speakers. The bass response I get is pretty good, though i've never heard a comparable system ran directly from the stereo, so I don't know if i'm getting the full range of sound.

So, if it is being filtered out, would I be able to notice a difference with my setup? I'm considering disconnecting my amp from the rears, and pulling the signal from the front speakers (if there will be a noticable increase in quality.)
