Soon after I bought my '97 900, I saw the 9-5 at the introduction at the SOC in Waterville, NH and asked the Saab reps about the aspheric mirror, which I loved. I am tall and found that I could not adjust the flat driver's side mirror far enough to get a proper view.
I was told that I could order the 9-5 mirror and it would be a snap-in replacement for the passenger side on the 900. Getting the driver's side aspheric mirror would require ordering a Europe-only part. Little did I know that my local dealer was more than happy to order such for me, so I ordered aspheric mirrors for both sides. If I recall, the passenger side was $50-something and the driver's side was twice that. Worth every penny.
The dealer warned me also that a non-flag driver's side mirror was not DOT compliant and that at a state inspection I might be asked to replace the original - I never was. (But I kept the original anyway.) The other thing is that it takes some getting used to - you tend to misjudge distances initially. (The driver's side mirror does not have the "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" etching.)
Now that I have a 9-3SS, I find that I don't need the aspheric mirror on the driver's side, so I can live without it. But I like the passenger-side aspheric.
